Cambodia

Cambodia lies at the heart of Indochina. It is a fascinating place that, despite its tiny size and its larger neighbors, has managed to remain uniquely Khmer. Cambodia's culture has its roots in the 1st to 6th centuries Funan, gave way to the Angkor Empire with the rise to power of King Jayavarman II. After the long period of isolation and numerous stop-go situations, caused by political problems during Khmer Rouge period, Cambodia has now slowly opened its borders to foreigners and allows visitors to explore its fascinating history and culture. These make the country especially interesting in many aspects. Angkor Wat is known as one of the Wonders of the World, which is situated in the province of Siem Reap. Cambodia contains more than 100 temples across the country. Once you have seen it, you will never forget the impression. Apart of Angkor Wat, there is the great lake - Tonlé Sap - linked to the Mekong River through Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. The numerous pagodas, the natural parks covering large tracks of undisturbed jungle, and interesting museums will make you enjoy a longer stay in Cambodia. A warm hospitality is the usual manner of the Cambodians; they are friendly and open to visitors. They are waiting for you to visit them.
