BURI RAM
The province covers an area of 10,231 square kilometers. The provincial capital is 410 kilometers northeast of Bangkok. Major provincial tourism attractions are two Khmer sanctuaries, the hilltop Prasat Hin Phanom Rung and the lowland Prasat Hin Muang Tam. Both attest to strong Khmer cultural influences in the area from the 11th to 13th centuries. Prasat Hin Phanom Rung was connected by road with Angkor, and contains bas-relief depictions of episodes from the Hindu epics Ramayana and Mahabharata. Each year, Buri Ram hosts a Northeastern Kite Festival in early December and traditional Boat Races during early November. Buri Ram is conveniently accessible from Bangkok, and Nakhon Ratchasima, by rail and road, and from Bangkok by air.
