MUKDAHAN
The province covers an area of 4,339 square kilometers. The provincial capital edges the Mekong River, facing the Laotian town of Suwannakhet, some 642 kilometers northeast of Bangkok. Tourists may cross the river to visit Laos provided they have the necessary travel documents and visas. The provincial capital is best known for its riverside 'Indochina Market', which sells cheap goods, predominantly fabrics, tools and electronic equipment, from Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and China. Major provincial attractions are the Phu Mu Forest Park, the Mukdahan National Park, a forested area, which features strange rock formations and wild flowers, and the Phu Sa Dok Bua National Park which features prehistoric rock paintings.
