PATTANI
This coastal province south of Songkhla and edging the Thai Gulf covers an area of 1,377 square kilometers. The provincial capital is 1,055 kilometers south of Bangkok. The province is best known for its Central Mosque, generally believed to be the prettiest of Islamic buildings in Thailand, and Korlae fishing boats, distinguished by hand-painted geometric designs. Such boats can be seen to their greatest advantage at Hat Panare.
